January 29, 2005 6pm to 2am 17th Long Night of the Museums

On January 29, 2005 numerous museums will allow visitors a surprisingly close look into the secret vaults and labs throughout the night.

This winter nights theme "collecting, researching and preserving" holds the opportunity for all participating museums and institutions in Berlin to introduce new aquisitions, publicise the latest research results and display treasures never seen before. This is the chance of a lifetime, to see behind usually closed doors, not only for the trained long-night-museum-visitor but for the untrained as well. Furthermore the supporting programs in the museums will animate the visitors to see exhibits from a very different angle.

More than 80 sites are open from 6pm to 2am on this 17th "Lange Nacht der Museen in Berlin", first time participants include "Berlinische Galerie" with its permanent exhibition on fine arts, photography and architecture, "Schloss Britz" picturing Paul Lincke - father of operetta - in a 19th century like surrounding and the wrought-iron blacksmith in Rixdorf showing craftsmanship from past periods. For the last time the "Ägyptische Museum" will present its collection in Charlottenburg, before moving to the Museumsinsel.

Detailed program leaflets as well as the tickets (12€/8€, children under 12 enter free) are available in all the participating museums, at box offices, at Museumspädagogischer Dienst Berlin and online www.ticketonline.de. The holder of the ticket is entitled to visit all the participating museums and collections, to use the shuttle buses running between the venues and public transport in the tariff zone ABC.
